Wendy Richmond

Wendy Richmond is a visual artist, writer and educator. Her most recent project, “Like the Back of My Hand,” is a series of sculptures and installations that reflect protection and loss. This work was recently featured in The New Yorker magazine “Talk of the Town,” March 11, 2019.

Richmond is a columnist for Communications Arts magazine; her column “Design Culture” began in 1984. She is the author of Design & Technology: Erasing the Boundaries and Overneath: a collaboration of photography and dance. Her newest book is Art Without Compromise*. She is the recipient of a MacDowell Colony Fellowship, a Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center residency, a National Endowment for the Arts grant, a LEF Foundation grant, the Hatch Award for Creative Excellence, and an American Academy in Rome Visiting Artist residency. She has taught at MIT, International Center of Photography, Rhode Island School of Design and Harvard University Graduate School of Education.

Richmond serves on the BRIC Artists Advisory Council and the MacDowell Fellows Executive Committee.
